Systems engineering is an interdisciplinary field of engineering that focuses on how to design and manage complex engineering projects over their life cycles. Issues such as reliability, logistics, coordination of different teams, evaluation measurements, and other disciplines become more difficult when dealing with large, complex projects.

Systems engineering deals with work-processes, optimization methods, and risk management tools in such projects. In this book, the authors discuss putting systems engineering into practice and the model-based systems engineering paradigm; education of military engineers and managers with a systems perspective at the Air Force Institute of Technology; simulation of the separation of industrially important hydrocarbon mixtures by different distillation techniques using Mathematica©; enterprise transformation and addressing individual perceptual and behavioral biases as scaling fractals to create emergent state changes; and the application and validation of systems engineering methods and techniques.
