This volume includes six chapters that detail advances in psychology research. Chapter 1 focuses on the global epidemiology of late-life depression and its growing public health implications. Chapter 2 presents a theoretical and conceptual psychological inquiry into the nature of identity and human flourishing through the lens of what we term self-being identity. Chapter 3 presents a psychological inquiry into how life and death education could contribute to the cultivation of resilient hope in the context of loss, grief, and complex life experiences. Chapter 4 revisits and extends earlier conceptual work from the chapter authors on personal resolve, a motivational construct developed within their broader program of research on the optimization of human functioning. Chapter 5 adopts a biopsychosocial perspective to examine the role of oxytocin across psychiatric conditions, including major depressive disorder, anxiety disorders, obsessive–compulsive disorder, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia, autism spectrum disorder, and trauma-related disorders. Finally, Chapter 6 reviews relevant literature across different time periods as it has evolved over long time and process.
