ABSTRACT

This paper presents selected common acute gastrointestinal and general surgical conditions among the adolescent and young adult. Emphasis is placed on selected gastrointestinal surgery and acute genito-gynecologic surgical conditions. Concepts of bariatric surgery are also considered. It is important for nonsurgical clinicians caring for youth to have some knowledge of surgical disorders in adolescents and young adults. The discussion begins with concepts of the acute surgical abdomen.
