Since Hamas’ brutal attack on Israel on October 7th, there has been a disturbing spike in antisemitic violence. This rampant antisemitism is perhaps most prevalent on American college campuses. Much of what is transpiring on college campuses is not First Amendment protected speech. Pro-Hamas protesters are committing vandalism, destroying university property, setting up large encampments, and in some instances, carrying out acts of violence. Unfortunately, the leadership of many of these universities has refused to respond with moral clarity as to what is happening. Instead, they have opted to cancel graduation ceremonies and in-person classes to avoid further disruptive demonstrations. The colleges that are failing to rein in these violent protests are actively trampling their Jewish students’ civil rights.
