Securing the airway is a fundamental priority in the management of critically ill patients. Conversely, total airway obstruction can result in cardiac arrest within 4 to 10 minutes, and irreversible central nervous system injury may begin as soon as 4 to 6 minutes after breathing arrest. Effective airway management in these patients relies on three essential elements: 1) Knowledge, 2) Clinical judgment, and 3) Technical skill. Proficiency in these areas improves with ongoing clinical experience. As such, it is crucial for all healthcare providers, including physicians and medical staff, to possess comprehensive expertise in airway management.
